We have a secret in our culture, and it's not that birth is painful. It's that women are strong. Laura Stavoe Harm

Generally my relationship with a client will begin during pregnancy. As she discusses the desires she has for her baby’s upcoming birth. I will help her find ways to obtain her goals. This may be in the form of finding the appropriate childbirth class, learning techniques, writing a birth plan, or many other things.

Once you've begun labor, you and your partner will have discussed when you will call me. I will provide early labor support at home, coming to your home and helping you while you are in labor before you are ready to go to the hospital or birth center. When you are ready to leave for your place of birth I will go with you, or follow in my car.

I am proficient in massage, positioning, comfort measures, relaxation and breathing. I will help you and your partner decide which position will help labor along or make labor more comfortable. Along the way I will make suggestions and reminders about simple things that are often forgotten. I will help you remember what plans you had for labor and help you get the things that you wanted. I can also help you when changes need to be made or complications arise.

After your baby is born I can help you with breast feeding and postpartum issues.

I will have at least 3 meetings with you before labor, and 1 meeting 1-2 weeks post-partum. I am available for unlimited phone and email consultations as needed. At our initial meeting I will discuss my role as your doula in an interview discussing services, limitations and fees, so you may choose if I am a good match for you and your situation. It is most important that you are comfortable with who you choose to be your doula. We will also touch on your desires for childbirth. On our 2nd meeting we will go over in greater detail your hopes, fears and desires for childbirth. We will walk through a “birth plan,” and discuss options. On our 3rd meeting we will practice several pain management techniques and coping skills, different pushing positions for birthing with and without an epidural. We go over when to call me and specific signs of labor and its progression. I will also provide you with one lavender flax seed eye pillow for your use. If you are going to take a tour of the hospital or birthing center I will be happy to tour with you, or accompany you to a midwife or doctor’s visit. If you are interested in making a belly cast I could assist you in making one. After labor , I will stay until you and baby are settled and will take a photo of the new family. I will provide you with a written account of your baby’s birth. I will visit you and baby in your home approximately one week after birth.

I believe every woman should have the support they need and desire during this special time of her life. My fees are all inclusive for $650. I am taking repeat clients at the same orginal fee they paid with their previous pregnancy. I do have backup doulas if an emergency should arise on my behalf.

*I will adjust on a sliding scale, to help work within your budget, please let me know if there is a financial need or consideration.
